4. Sensitive information
Because of the products we sell, the fact that you bought from us or are interested in certain products may reveal information about your sex life or health. The law treats this as sensitive personal data. We therefore:
- use it for marketing and personalised offers only with your explicit consent, given separately for WhatsApp and for email;
- never sell it or share it with anyone for their own marketing;
- write our messages so they are discreet: they do not describe products in a way that would reveal their nature on a lock screen or in an inbox preview;
- keep only what we need and limit who at Slyd can see it.
5. How and why we use your information
| Purpose | Legal basis under the Data Protection Act, 2019 |
|---|---|
| Take, process, deliver and support your orders (including returns and customer service) | Performance of a contract with you |
| Take payment by M-Pesa and prevent fraud | Performance of a contract; legitimate interest in preventing fraud |

| Run your Slyd Society account, points and rewards | Performance of the membership terms you accept; your consent for anything involving your purchase history |

6. Marketing, Slyd Society and your choices
- Marketing is always opt-in. The boxes at checkout and on the Slyd Society form are unticked, and WhatsApp and email are separate choices.
- For email we send a confirmation message first; we only send marketing after you confirm.
- You can stop at any time: click “unsubscribe” in any email, reply STOP on WhatsApp, or contact us. Opting out never affects your orders or your points.
- We send no more than 2 marketing messages a week and none between 8 pm and 8 am (Nairobi time). Service messages about your order, such as checking that it arrived, are not counted in this limit.
- Slyd Society is free. Members earn points for actions such as joining, completing their profile, ordering and reviewing products. Every order adds 30 points; at 100 points you receive a one-time code for 17% off your next order.
7. Personalisation and feedback
If you have agreed to receive marketing, we use your order history, the interests you tell us and how you interact with our site and messages to choose which offers and tips to send you and when, for example a reminder when you are likely to be running low, or a guide relevant to a product you bought. This is done by simple automated rules on our own website system. It does not produce decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on you, and you can object to it at any time by opting out of marketing or contacting us.
After an order we may ask whether it arrived well and how you rate it. Your answers and any comments are stored with your order, read by our team, and used to fix problems and improve our service. If you tell us something went wrong, we pause marketing messages to you while we put it right, and a member of our team contacts you.
8. Who we share your information with
We share personal data only with service providers who process it for us under contract, and only as needed for the purposes above. We do not sell personal data.
| Recipient | Why | Where the data is processed |

9. Transfers outside Kenya
Some providers above process data outside Kenya. Where we transfer personal data abroad we do so only as permitted by sections 48–50 of the Data Protection Act, 2019, relying on appropriate safeguards in our providers’ contracts or on your consent.

- Changes to our website are tested on a private, password-protected copy that cannot send messages to customers.
- We keep backups and monitor the site for security threats.
- If a breach is likely to put your rights at risk, we will notify the Data Protection Commissioner and, where required, you, within the time the law sets.
12. Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to:
- be informed about how your data is used (this policy);
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- object to our processing, including all marketing and personalisation;
- have incorrect or misleading data corrected;
- have data deleted where we no longer have a lawful reason to keep it;
- have processing restricted in certain cases;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect what we did before you withdrew);

13. Adults only
Our products and Slyd Society are for adults aged 18 and over. We ask you to confirm your age at checkout and when you join, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.
14. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technology that are essential for the site to work (for example your cart and login), and analytics tools (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) that help us understand how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the shop may not work properly without essential cookies.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new version on this page with its date, and tell Slyd Society members by email or WhatsApp if the changes are significant.
16. Questions and complaints
Contact us first at [email protected] or 0719 696969; we want to put things right. You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC), Kenya: www.odpc.go.ke.
